Commemoa
The Beef Wellington Place in Haebangchon That Requires Advance Planning (And Is Worth It)
There's a small French wine bar in Haebangchon that Yongsan locals quietly recommend to each other for special occasions. It only has seven tables. The Beef Wellington alone is reason enough to go — but you have to plan ahead.
What to Expect
Commemoa (꼼모아) is a French restaurant and wine bar on a side street in Haebangchon, one of Seoul's most interesting neighborhoods for international dining. The space is compact and deliberately low-key — think candlelit tables, unhurried service, and a menu that doesn't try to cover everything. It's the kind of place where the kitchen is clearly focused, not spread thin.
The food skews classical French: think rich pâtés, escargot, duck, and the star of the show — Beef Wellington. If you've never had Beef Wellington before, it's a beef tenderloin wrapped in a mushroom paste and puff pastry, then roasted. The result is something between a very elegant roast and a proper pastry course. It arrives golden, sliced at the table, and when it's done right — which it is here — it's genuinely impressive. One note: it's served on the rarer side by default. If you prefer it cooked through, just ask — the kitchen accommodates without making you feel awkward about it.
This is a Michelin-recognized spot. The prices reflect that. Budget accordingly.
What to Order
Beef Wellington — The reason to come. Order this at least one day in advance, because they won't have it otherwise. This is not a "call ahead to confirm" situation; it's a hard requirement. Book via their Instagram DM, which is also how you handle reservations in general.
Pâté — Multiple reviewers have called this out as a standout, and it tends to be the sleeper hit of the meal. Smooth, well-seasoned, the kind of thing you keep spreading on bread longer than you planned.
Escargot in pastry — They do a basil escargot served inside a puff pastry case. If you've been hesitant about snails, this is a good entry point — the pastry softens the experience, and the basil keeps it bright rather than heavy.
Wine pairings are available and the staff are helpful about it. Let them guide you if you're unsure.
Atmosphere & Vibe
Seven tables. That's it. The room is intimate without being precious about it — casual enough that you don't feel like you need to whisper, but the setting makes it obvious this is date-night or celebration territory. The street outside has coffee shops and bars, which makes it easy to extend the evening after dinner.
Service is attentive without hovering. The pace is unhurried, which in Seoul — where dinner can sometimes feel like a timed event — is actually a feature.

What People Are Saying
"This is very nice and cozy place! We enjoyed so much. Food was very tasty, they cooked everything pretty fast. We wanted to have a nice place for a date and were fully satisfied with the choice. We ordered Wellington, pate, snails, duck, soufflé and ice cream. My favorite is pate! Really good! I can’t eat raw meat and Wellington was a bit too raw for me. I asked to cook Wellington for me a bit more and they did it with no issues. I really appreciate. Also we are thankful help with the wine, it worked perfectly for dinner. I recommend this place. There is a booking fee 50k which goes as deposit."
