The Best Pho in Gangnam Is Made With Beef Intestines — and That's the Point
Seoul has no shortage of Vietnamese restaurants, but Tamtam (땀땀) has built a proper reputation in Gangnam for one very specific reason: the spicy beef intestine pho. It's the dish regulars come back for, and it's the reason there's almost always a line outside.
What to Expect
First, the intestine thing. If that sounds intimidating, here's what it actually tastes like: the broth is rich and deeply savory, closer to a Korean-style gamja-tang in intensity than a light Hanoi pho. The intestines themselves are soft, not chewy, and they absorb the spice beautifully. If you've had gopchang (Korean grilled intestines) before and liked it, this will feel familiar. If you haven't — it's genuinely worth trying. The spice level is real, though. Not decorative heat. Your nose will run.
The good news: both the noodles and broth are refillable at no extra cost. Order one bowl and you can keep going. That's rare at this price point in Gangnam, and it makes the $$$ feel more reasonable.
Come hungry, not in a rush. There's almost always a short wait — sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 30, depending on the hour. It moves, but don't show up five minutes before you need to be somewhere.
What to Order
Spicy beef intestine pho (maeun gopchang ssal guksu) — This is the signature. The broth is opaque, brick-red, and punchy. Go here first. The portion is generous, and once you've emptied the bowl halfway, ask for a broth refill — it keeps the heat going without overwhelming the noodles.
Vermicelli with BBQ pork and spring roll (bun thit nuong style) — A solid lighter option if the spicy pho feels like too much. Good balance of textures, a bit of char from the pork. It's not the star of the show, but it's dependable. Just know it's not a spicy dish, so you're here for different reasons.
One honest note: skip the fried shrimp roll if you're going by menu photos. A few people have found it doesn't quite match expectations, and it's not what Tamtam does best. Stick to the noodles.
Atmosphere & Vibe
It's a clean, modern space — the kind of place that takes itself seriously without being precious about it. Bright lighting, efficient layout. Not the prettiest room in Gangnam, but the staff moves fast and there's a competence to the whole operation that you appreciate once your food arrives hot and your bowl gets refilled without having to flag anyone down.
One thing worth knowing: English is manageable here. At least one review mentions staff helping in English, which for a non-touristy Gangnam lunch spot is genuinely useful.

If you're coming on a weekday, late lunch around 2:00–2:30 PM tends to be the sweet spot — the main rush has cleared and the wait drops significantly. Weekends before 1 PM are the worst window. Also: if you're spice-sensitive, just ask for a milder version when you order — the staff are used to the request.

What People Are Saying
"I wish I could post this on Naver The food was okay but the service was very disappointing here. I ordered the grilled charcoal pork which was okay (finished it) and fried shrimp roll, but what I received looked nothing like the picture on the menu. The taste was also unpleasant — strange, overly sweet, and not what I expected. When I asked the manager about it, he simply said “no” with a rude attitude, as if the change to a spring-roll-type dish was normal. If he had at least explained politely or shown some understanding, it would have been acceptable even if that was their policy"
"Was craving some viet food so came in quick for a bite. Got the vermicelli w/bbq pork & spring roll. Flavor was good, I didn’t get spicy this time but I wish I did. 1 star minus for some of the lettuce being not good to eat. Service was great and was able to help in english!"
"We got lucky to get in after 10mins waiting. This place was very very busy. Their famous Beef instestine pho was delicious and generous in portion."
