Good For
The Strawberry Cake Shop at Lotte World Mall That Koreans Actually Line Up For
There's one reason to come to Kitchen 205 (키친205) in Jamsil. One. The strawberry cake. That's it, and it's enough.
What to Expect
Kitchen 205 started in Hampyeong — a region in South Korea known for growing some of the country's best strawberries — and that origin story matters. The whole brand is built around strawberry quality, and when you cut into this cake, you understand why. We're not talking about a few decorative slices on top. Roughly half the interior of the cake is strawberries, layered in with fresh whipped cream in a ratio that actually makes sense. It's a classic Korean-style fresh cream cake (saengkeurim keikeu) — lighter and less sweet than Western buttercream cakes, with a soft sponge base. If you've never had Korean-style cake before, think of it as the opposite of a dense American layer cake. Airy, delicate, and all about the quality of what's inside rather than how much sugar is masking it.
One honest caveat: if you visit outside strawberry season (roughly November through May is peak season in Korea), the strawberries can lean tart. Reviews are split on this. In season, the sweetness-to-cream ratio is reportedly excellent. Off-season, the whipped cream flavor ends up doing most of the heavy lifting — which, to be fair, some people prefer.
What to Order
The whole strawberry cake (1-ho size) — 48,000 KRW. Yes, it's only sold as a whole cake. No slices. The 1-ho size feeds about three to four people comfortably, or two people who are seriously committed. There's also a smaller size that works for two. Don't go solo unless you have a plan for leftovers — they box it nicely for travel.
There are drinks for dine-in too, and the café setup is fine for sitting down, but the cake is the only reason to make the trip.
Atmosphere & Vibe
It's inside Lotte World Mall B1 (basement level 1), so the space is compact and mall-adjacent. Don't expect a quiet neighborhood café moment — this is a mall bakery counter with seating, not a destination spot in its own right. The vibe is clean, well-lit, and efficient. Korean celebrities have visited (it's appeared in a few YouTube videos), which has added to the wait situation. Come for the cake, not the ambience.
The Wait — Know Before You Go
This is the part people underestimate. Weekends can mean a 40-minute queue before you even get your hands on a cake. The shop sells out. If you arrive late at night, there's a real chance they're gone.
Insider tip: Reservations open every Sunday at 6:00 PM via Naver, for the following week. If you're planning a weekend visit, set a reminder and book on Sunday evening. During Christmas season, they drop the reservation system entirely and run on a first-come, first-served basis — so plan accordingly if you're visiting in December.
If you can't get a reservation, Tuesday or Wednesday mornings are your best bet for a shorter wait.

What People Are Saying
"Visited for the strawberry cake—presentation was lovely, but the taste was just okay, possibly because strawberries weren’t in season. The café offers a nice selection of sodas and coffee for dine-in, with a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. Still a pleasant stop if you're nearby and want a quiet break."
"One of the best strawberry cake in Korea. Only caveat is that you have to purchase the whole cake. They don’t sell slices. Perhaps it will be the best strawberry cake you had-that is if you like fresh cream Asian style frosting. They don’t skimp on strawberries and if you know Korea’s strawberry cost, you’ll know this cake is not all that pricey. You will find above average strawberry cakes everywhere during strawberry season but for others I had to cut up strawberries to eat it with my strawberry cakes, basically they were mostly frosting without enough strawberry. Not here. I got the mini size which is good for three or four person. Since my husband and I love cakes, we were able to finish the mini one but tbh it’s quite big to finish the cake after a meal as a dessert. If you don’t want to wait 40min in line, come on Tues or Wed. I went Saturday before they opened but waited 40min to get my cake. It was nice how they allow you to pick it up before 8pm. Will definitely come back if I’m in town on m-wed morning."
"This cake shop is so popular that you can't even get a cake if you go late at night. It's quite small, but at 48,000 won, it's quite expensive. The taste was satisfying, though. The highlight is the sheer volume of strawberries, almost half of the cake. Perhaps because it's not the season for strawberries, it wasn't particularly sweet, but rather a strong tartness. The whipped cream flavor really stood out, even more than the strawberries and other ingredients, which I really enjoyed. Considering the size and price, it's not the best value, but I think I'd buy it once a year."
